Innovation and Opportunity in 2009

We at Modean Industries greet 2009 with enthusiasm. It will be a year of opportunity, even given the economic challenges to be met. Our goal from the start is to reach out to our clients — you! — to better understand and meet your finishing needs and to assist you in achieving maximum plant efficiency as economically as possible.
Among the innovations we are currently working on is the development of systems capable of doubling the warrantable life of outdoor coatings — ones used when extreme weather conditions may affect a finished product. On another front, we are also working to improve the efficacy of IR and convection curing systems in reducing contamination in a quick-change, multi-color powder coating systems.

Please explore the case studies in the Industries section of our website for further information about the kinds of innovations we are developing.

During 2008, we secured new business not only in the United States, but also in the Middle East. Now at the beginning of 2009, Mexico and North Africa are also suggesting excellent potential. Of keen primary interest are two component systems, both of which are core to Modean Industries’ expertise: powder coatings and 100% solid ultra-violet (UV) coatings. Our ongoing aim is to provide ever better coatings produced ever more economically. Fortunately, both powder and UV coatings represent the famous “4Es” of the coating industry: Efficiency, Ecology, Economy and Excellence.

Modean Industries is grateful to our clients and suppliers for your continued support. We extend a sincere thank you for your ongoing, collegial and enthusiastic collaboration.

We wish you a very happy and prosperous New Year, with a special note to our suppliers and friends in China — Happy New Year of the Ox!

Best wishes,

Hani T. Azzam

Pollution-Free Powder Coating Supports Environmental Sustainability

These solar street lights are the result of a joint effort by SolarOne® Solutions, Hadco® Lighting and Sullivan Renaissance (a community beautification and development program). They light the Swan Lake Park, Sullivan County, NY. SolarOne® developed the power package and the patent pending SO-Bright™ controls with LED light engines which integrate seamlessly into the period street lamps designed by Hadco®.

“Why, you ask, is Modean Industries, Inc. featuring innovative solar street lighting?” The answer is two-fold. 1) The Hadco® fixtures are powder coated and can withstand a wide variety of weather conditions from hot sun and humid weather to excessive rain and snow; 2) SolarOne® Solutions, an associate of Modean Industries, Inc., is a leader in solar lighting development and design. Not only does solar power reduce energy waste to zero, but also the process used to coat the fixtures themselves is environmentally safe and long lasting. This results in a win-win situation, beautiful, reliable lighting which defies power outages plus the benefit of reduced community carbon impact.

A third reason for featuring the Sullivan Renaissance project is because it is an on-going experiment in research, education, and community pride, involving everyone in the community from the toddlers to the senior citizens. And this experiment in sustainability is working!

Meet Matherm, Modean Industries’ newest partner

Modean Industries, Inc. is proud to partner with Matherm to enhance its global capability and bring the Matherm know-how to Modean Industries’ markets.

Matherm Matherm

Matherm, a French company, was established in 1978 in Villars Les Dombes. Mr. Roblot, a textile engineer and the founder focused on Infrared (IR) technology and the benefits it could offer in the textile market. Mr. Roblot with a staff of 4 developed a process to provide infrared pre-drying in the textile industry only.

When Sunkiss purchased Matherm in 2001, Mr. Christian Aorte became Matherm’s General Manager. Mr. Aorte created a new department devoted to painting and surface finishing. He expanded the market to include cosmetics, glass, plastics, automotive and aeronautic industries. He brought growth and success to Matherm. Mr. Aorte became chairman and 100% owner of Matherm in 2008.

The advantages of IR are numerous: Curing time is fast and since IR requires minimum ventilation, air movement does not create circulating dust or dirt. Thus it’s the prefect process for creating high quality finishes economically and efficiently. No preheating time of an oven is required, the design is compact and the process adapts well to curing Powder Coatings, Water Borne paints and many additional coatings.

Matherm’s success cannot be attributed to IR however. It is the result of the management’s continued dedication to excellence in design, attention to detail, product line development, customer service, and on-time delivery.

You may not be familiar with Matherm now. You are guaranteed to hear more and more about it, for Matherm deals in products we all use every day. Just take a look at your pen—not the basic throw-away by your phone, the pen you keep in your pocket which is designed to be long lasting, work well and properly represent your company and the quality you stand for.

Blast From the Past!

When do you think the ad below was aired? Take a guess. The ranges featured look almost identical to the ones you would see if you strolled into an appliance store today. The woman’s outfit and hair style provide few clues though. If you guessed 1977, you would be correct.

In 1977 General Electric was the leading home appliance manufacturer. At the time, GE management’s challenge was maintaining their market lead through innovation while staying price competitive. GE was looking for ways to improve the appearance of their ranges and increase longevity, while also meeting the latest pollution standards without increasing prices. The leaders of Interrad, which founded Modean Industries, were responsible for helping GE cut material and energy costs and thus meet their goals. Read more about the history of Modean Industries…
